In recent years, allegations of political bias within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have escalated to unprecedented levels, exposing a disturbing pattern of internal corruption, abuse of power, and retaliation against whistleblowers. These individuals—agents who have dared to speak out against the systemic rot within the agency—have not been met with gratitude for their courage, but with severe retaliation. Many of them have lost their careers, personal safety, and livelihoods. The issue extends far beyond isolated incidents and has come to define a disturbing trend, raising a critical question: Can the FBI still function as a fair and apolitical law enforcement body, or has it become so deeply corrupted that reform is no longer an option?
FBI’s Political Bias in Action: Recent Examples
In September 2024, The Gateway Pundit revealed an appalling example of the FBI’s politicization in appointing Jeff Veltri—an agent known for his rabid anti-Trump views—to head an investigation into an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump. The fact that Veltri, an openly biased figure, was chosen to handle such a politically charged case is not only reckless but indicative of a systemic issue within the FBI: political loyalty and bias appear to be more critical than impartiality and justice. This incident illustrates the FBI’s ongoing willingness to pursue politically biased investigations that align with its broader agenda of targeting conservative figures and political opponents.
This is not an isolated incident. In November 2023, whistleblower testimony revealed that the FBI has been systematically targeting agents who expose internal misconduct. Instead of being rewarded for their transparency, these agents are demoted, marginalized, or forced out altogether. This behavior reflects a deeply embedded culture within the FBI that prioritizes political expediency over accountability, ethics, and fairness. In this environment, whistleblowers—essential figures in exposing corruption—are treated as enemies of the state.
The Weaponization of the FBI and DOJ: A Deep-Rooted Problem
The politicization of federal law enforcement is not limited to individual cases. The FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have been repeatedly accused of aligning themselves with one political agenda over another, using their considerable resources to investigate and prosecute individuals who oppose the current administration’s views. In particular, the FBI has been implicated in manufacturing investigations into “domestic violent extremism” (DVE), largely to push a narrative that aligns with the political goals of the Biden administration. Special Agent Stephen Friend, a whistleblower, testified that the FBI has been manipulating data to create the appearance of a surge in domestic extremism cases, even when evidence to support such claims was lacking.
This manipulation of investigations to fit political narratives not only undermines the integrity of law enforcement but also diverts valuable resources away from addressing legitimate criminal activities such as child exploitation, human trafficking, and violent crime. Friend testified that he was reassigned from investigating child exploitation cases to work on January 6-related DVE cases—an apparent misallocation of resources driven by political motivations rather than actual public safety concerns.
My Experience: The FBI’s Retaliation Against Whistleblowers
As a former FBI whistleblower, I know firsthand the cost of exposing corruption within the agency. In 2018, I came forward with critical information regarding the Clinton Foundation and the Uranium One scandal. Despite following whistleblower protection protocols, I was targeted with an FBI raid on my home, an aggressive and unnecessary move that Senator Chuck Grassley later publicly questioned. This raid was a clear attempt to intimidate and discredit me—an act of retaliation designed to suppress any information that could damage the agency’s political interests.
Unfortunately, my story is just one of many. Other whistleblowers, like Stephen Friend and Garret O’Boyle, have faced similar reprisals for exposing political bias within the FBI. Both Friend and O’Boyle testified before Congress that they were stripped of their security clearances and left in financial ruin for daring to speak out. This type of retaliation demonstrates the agency’s blatant disregard for the legal protections afforded to whistleblowers and highlights a culture of suppression and control within the FBI.
Operating Outside the Constitution: Should the FBI Even Exist?
The most troubling aspect of this widespread corruption and political bias is the growing belief among many that the FBI is no longer operating within the boundaries of the U.S. Constitution. Time and time again, the agency has been accused of overstepping its authority, using its power not to uphold justice but to further political agendas. Whether it’s the targeting of political opponents, the manipulation of investigations to suit the narrative of the party in power, or the blatant retaliation against whistleblowers, it has become clear that the FBI operates as an unchecked bureaucracy, more interested in advancing its interests than serving the American people.
The question of whether the FBI should even continue to exist is not a new one. For decades, critics have pointed to the agency’s history of abuse, from COINTELPRO to the current-day surveillance of American citizens without proper legal justification. The evidence is mounting that the FBI, as it currently stands, may be beyond repair.
A System Too Broken to Fix: The Case for Dissolution and Rebuilding
As more whistleblowers come forward, exposing the FBI’s corruption and political bias, one thing has become increasingly clear: the agency is too broken to fix from within. Even with increased congressional oversight and reforms, the cultural and structural problems within the FBI are so deeply ingrained that meaningful change may be impossible. The leadership at the top of the FBI and DOJ has demonstrated a consistent willingness to flout the law, weaponize the agency for political gain, and retaliate against those who seek to expose wrongdoing.
Rather than attempting to reform an institution that repeatedly resists accountability, perhaps it is time to consider more drastic measures. Breaking up or dissolving the FBI altogether may be the only way to address its corruption and rebuild an agency that can operate with greater checks and balances. A newly formed law enforcement body, one that is subject to stricter oversight and more robust congressional review, could restore faith in federal law enforcement and ensure that the abuses of power we see today are not allowed to continue.
Congress must take immediate and decisive action to address the growing corruption within the FBI and DOJ. Stronger whistleblower protections, increased transparency, and most importantly, a willingness to hold leadership accountable are essential steps to rebuilding trust in our federal institutions. Without such measures, the FBI will continue to function as a political weapon, and the brave individuals who expose its corruption will remain at risk of retaliation.
The time for half-measures and incremental reforms has passed. The FBI must be held to account, and if it cannot be reformed from within, it may be time to dismantle it and start anew.
